It is estimated that Kenya loses KSH 70 billion a year due to counterfeit trade (Business Daily Africa). Cable producer East African Cables did not want to be a part of that statistic any longer. The company recently partnered with Sproxil East Africa Limited to help curb the issue and introduce the Zinduka initiative. Through this program, consumers can avoid getting duped by substandard, fake cables and ensure that they only get the high quality products they want.

The Zinduka initiative mirrors the award winning Mobile Product Authentication™ (MPA™) solution. At point of purchase, consumers can scratch off a part of the special security label to reveal a unique, one-time use item code. They can text the code for free to Sproxil’s short code in Kenya – 38353 – and almost instantly receive a reply stating that the product is genuine or warning that it may be fake.

“Through this technology, EA Cables will be able to know the location where counterfeiting is taking place and share the same information with regulators,” said Geoffrey Otieno, Head of Sproxil East Africa Limited.

Although the Zinduka-protected products are already in market, the official launch for the initiative was today. More details on the launch to come soon!
