Cambridge, Mass. (July 1st, 2014) – Sproxil®, a leading provider of world-class brand protection, announces that its Mobile Product Authentication™ (MPA™) solution has processed more than ten million verifications, continuing to make it the most widely-used solution of its kind. The Company hit the 10 million milestone just over 4 years after its February 2010 launch. The MPA solution, first implemented to combat counterfeit medication, is compatible with virtually any tangible product and has enjoyed expansion into a variety of product categories including agri-business, automotive aftermarket parts, health & beauty products, food and beverage, bedding, and textiles & clothing.
Before purchasing a product, customers scratch a label that reveals a one-time use code. Next the consumer texts the code to a secure number provided on the product package, the text message is then processed to determine product genuineness. Within seconds, Sproxil notifies the end user, via text, of the result. Alternatively, purchasers can verify using Sproxil’s iOS or Android apps, verify by web, or call the company’s consumer support desk to get results in their local language. Another benefit: the service is free of charge to the consumer.
“This is an incredibly exciting milestone for Sproxil and our partners. Even more impressive is how quickly usage is accelerating. It took almost two years to reach the one million milestone, then in just one more year we hit 5 million; now 10 months later we’ve doubled that number to 10 million,” states Jaime Stern, Sproxil’s Director of Sales. “Our expansion in emerging markets where consumers have high levels of access to mobile phones, and are familiar with ‘scratch & text’ practices, has played an important role in our rapid growth. Another major factor is our roll-out of new applications for MPA including our consumer loyalty and targeted marketing platforms.”
The MPA technology is also deployed for mobile marketing services that provide extra value to end-users and product manufacturers or distributors. Consumer engagement and loyalty applications create one-way or two-way conversations with end-users to communicate important information about products, program or service options, such as rewards programs, special promotional offers, important product information, refill instructions. Clients such as Lux Premium Innerwear and Mouka Lifestyle Limited are already seeing accelerated growth of consumer verifications due to their Sproxil-powered mobile marketing campaigns.
In addition to brand protection and consumer loyalty benefits, data and analytics collected with MPA technology provides companies with valuable insight into consumer purchasing trends, leveraging multi-channel survey tools that are MPA-enabled to enhance the consumer experience while protecting confidentiality and privacy.
Sproxil® is a social enterprise that provides award-winning brand protection and mobile marketing services in high growth markets. Its flagship Mobile Product Authentication™(MPA™) solution helps ensure goods are not counterfeit or compromised, empowering consumers to verify product genuineness by SMS, mobile app, web, or voice. Compatible with any tangible item, MPA is widely used by leading pharmaceutical companies to curb the multi-billion dollar counterfeit drug industry. MPA protects products across more than ten industries, including personal care, automotive aftermarket parts and electrical cables. Sproxil’s mobile marketing and consumer loyalty services help brand owners increase consumer loyalty and differentiate themselves from competitors.
The company has been recognized globally for its efforts against counterfeiting and is endorsed by regulatory bodies in Nigeria and Kenya. Sproxil received the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office 2013 Patents for Humanity Award in Information Technology, the 2010 IBM SmartCamp Boston Award and the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative Outstanding Commitment Award.
